Beyond Buckskin x Homeskillet Fest

Greetings from Alaska! I am sitting here at a table next to a window overlooking the ocean. A cruise ship is docked, and tourists are exploring the small town of Sitka on this cool summer day. Smithsonian Magazine recently named Sitka as one of the best small towns in American to visit in 2013.

“There are photo ops galore at the Sitka National Historical Park, site of the last major battle between Europeans and Native Americans on the Pacific Coast,” writes Smithsonian author Susan Spano.

Post-Manito Ahbee

Ah! Hello everyone!!

Things are finally settling down for a hot second (before they pick back up again for the Michigan event) and I wanted to tell you a little bit about this past weekend at Manito Ahbee!

First off, two of the Beyond Buckskin Boutique artists flew into North Dakota and they camped at the Metcalfe compound in Gardena North Dakota for a couple of days before we dashed past the North 40 up to Canada.

Featured Artist | Nicholas Galanin

Nicholas Galanin comes to us from Sitka, Alaska. The traditional lands of his relatives and ancestors, Galanin continues to mark Sitka as a critically important place to his identity and creativity.

As a guy who can find inspiration in the smallest moments in life, Galanin is a true artist who refuses to focus on one medium or category.

We can find Galanin's work in the Peabody Essex museum archives, the Vancouver Art Gallery's hip Beat Nation exhibit, his local Devilfish Gallery space, or on the radio airwaves under the pseudonym Silver Jackson (if it's that, you know, new soul-baring indie kind of music) or Indian Nick (if it's that ndn hip hop style).
