2019 BUY NATIVE Holiday Gift Guide

It's been a while since we've done a Holiday Gift Guide, and we are excited to do it this year! We hope that some of these items inspire you to Buy Native this season and support some pretty amazing artists. Beyond Buckskin works with dozens of artists to promote and sell their work through our online Boutique and physical retail store located on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in Belcourt, ND. We also promote Native artists and entrepreneurs through our BUY NATIVE list. Even if you're on a tight budget this year, please consider sharing this guide with your networks.

#GoNative and Win! (at life, of course)

It has been such a beautiful first 2 days of the #GoNative challenge to wear Native American-made fashion for a week! It was so great to see all the smiling faces on Instagram and Facebook - you can scroll down to see a quick round-up of some of our fave images. There were too many awesome ones to post, so I've decided to kick it up a notch, make it interesting, and throw in some prizes.

Beyond Buckskin will give away five $20 BBB Gift Certificates for the images with the most likes on Instagram, Facebook, or Tumblr.

Holiday Sparkle

Beyond Buckskin just mailed out over 21 payments to individual Native American and First Nations designers throughout Turtle Island for purchases made on Beyond Buckskin this past week alone (and our cheesy image to the left of the stack of checks is our small celebration to the fact).

We still have to make payments for the final round of sales occurring this week, but we can see some preliminary results. In the weeks prior (including our Cyber Monday sale), over 50 checks have been cut to pay artists for BBB holiday sales.

Buy Native 2013!

It's that time of year again! Ah - the holidays. It's a time to reconnect with loved ones, spend time with nieces, play with nephews, catch up with anties, chill with grammas. The snow has already coated the ground here in north North Dakota, though the temps are supposed to bounce back up (oh that balmy 30 degree weather!).

The oven gets a lot of use - pies, turkey, ham. In between the large family gatherings are smaller gatherings around bowls of stew or plates of baked treats, and we plot our holiday plans and shopping schedules.

BB Facebook | Best of November

I post a lot of fashion news on the Beyond Buckskin Facebook Fan Page. It's a great way to share info quickly without having to prep and write an entire post on it. I also recently started a 'Best of' post for each month where I highlight some of the coolest images, the most interesting articles, the biggest misappropriators, and the neatest videos that were posted to the Beyond Buckskin Facebook page.

So, now that we are WAY into December, it's safe to look back at November and pick out the best (and worst), so, fashionistas, here you go:

Christmas Buying / Buying Native

Alright! It's going down! I've been talking about 'buying Native' this holiday season, and I'm sticking to my word!

I've been so busy with the Boutique business and with other work commitments that I haven't had a chance to shop for gifts! Until now, that is.

We decorated my tree this past weekend, and Todd put up lights outside around my house in the bitter cold, so needless to say, I'm totally feeling the holiday giving spirit right now.

Buy Native

As promised, I am officially launching this campaign to Buy Native this holiday season. I've written about this campaign here and here (and the idea began last year with this post), and I'm reaching out to you all to join me in this mission. 

I am personally going to try to buy only Native-made products for gifts, and over the next 5 weeks I'll be writing about my challenges and findings. Now, you can just bookmark this link, and all your Native dreams will come true (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration). 

Ring in the Holidays with Beyond Buckskin

Ring in the holidays? Is that the term? Well, whatever it is, I want to take this opportunity to talk with you about the upcoming 6 weeks, and how important we can make them when it comes to economic development in Indian Country.

During the holidays we spend billions of dollars on gifts and decor. A lot of that money goes to huge companies (Walmart and Apple come to mind). A lot of these huge companies outsource their jobs, and little of that money actually trickles down to the workers who produce the items. Several companies employ sweatshops (such as Nike, click here for a partial listing of companies down with sweatshoppin').
