Top Ten Books To Read Now

Welcome to the first of our series of TOP TEN lists!

I was inspired to create these lists because it is Native American Heritage Month, and I was trying to brainstorm various ways that people can engage in this wonderful celebratory month. I ended up coming up with 8+ list ideas, which is a lot, so I will be launching a new list each week, and keep the party going long past November's end.

These are my lists, haha, and I'm sure some of you out there could create better lists, and I encourage you to do that. Please don't be critical or a negative nancy - these lists are not meant to be the end-all be-all, but rather should be considered loving and positive jump-off points.

This first one is a list of books, novels, and poetry collections by Native American authors. I love these books, like, LOVE, and after writing this list, I think I may just pull them from the bookshelf and re-read them. I also provided direct links to purchase the titles through Birchbark Books, which is a Native-owned bookstore in Minnesota.

Please check out these enchanting, epic, immersive, captivating masterpieces:

  1. Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich
  2. Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko
  3. Blue Horses Rush In by Luci Tapahonso
  4. Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead
  5. Riding the Earthboy 40 by James Welch
  6. Waterlily by Ella Cara Deloria
  7. The Way to Rainy Mountain by N. Scott Momaday
  8. The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie
